Building Organizations That Last

We were incredibly honored to have Carrie join us to teach on self-care in the context of high-volume outreach during a major sporting event. Rather than presenting self-care as something separate from the work, she challenged us to approach outreach from a place of overflow rather than depletion. Her wisdom reminded us that sustainable justice work is not about running ourselves into the ground for a cause, but about stewarding our hearts, minds, and bodies well so that we can continue showing up faithfully for the people we serve. One team member, Bethany H., shared, “This is exactly what our team needed right now.” Another participant said the training completely shifted their perspective on how they want to show up in outreach moving forward. As someone who has spent more than 13 years in anti-trafficking work, I found Carrie’s teaching both refreshing and deeply needed. She spoke to the subtle ways we can become complacent, disconnected, or simply exhausted in this work, while offering practical tools to remain present and healthy over the long haul. More than anything, the training reminded us that our calling is not just about what we do. It’s also about who we are becoming. Carrie helped our team see that caring for ourselves and caring for one another are not distractions from the mission — they are part of faithfully stewarding the mission God has entrusted to us. We are deeply grateful for her leadership, wisdom, and investment in our team. We leave this training feeling better equipped to care for ourselves, support one another, and honor the work God has called us to do in the anti-trafficking space.
